High School Prep Advanced Courses
We have been working to develop advanced course offerings in order to provide developmentally appropriate, challenging curriculum for students who have demonstrated academic readiness and excellence in prior coursework.
Placement Requirements
Advanced courses are academically rigorous and careful consideration will be given when placing students in these courses. In order to be placed into an advanced course, the following criteria is considered:
● Academic performance in prior courses
● MAP scores
● Teacher recommendation
Grades 5-7: Students in grades 5-7 who qualify for advanced coursework will be placed in both
English and math courses in the grade above. Seventh grade students will be placed in High
School History.
Grade 8: Students in grade 8 will be placed in High School English 1, High School Algebra 1,
High School History or all three based upon meeting placement requirements for each course.
GPA
Advanced courses will be weighted as Honors classes when calculating GPA.
High School Credits
Eight graders who take advanced courses have the opportunity to earn a dual enrollment credit. The
course will count towards their Trinity graduation requirement and also transfer as a high
school credit. See the chart below for information on how the credit will transfer into your child’s
high school.
